“The Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

I always believed the Bible was God’s word. I knew as a child that it taught right from wrong. As I got older, I realized that scriptures were very comforting and pertinent to all my problems and needs. Many times I would be having my devotions and a scripture would jump out at me. I knew God had spoken to me because it was just what I needed to hear at the time. But I never really thought about it being “alive”.

I was going through some very difficult problems a couple of years ago, and our Sunday School teacher talked about the Word of God being alive and powerful. He suggested speaking and reading it aloud, that it had power over situations. That was a new thought to me. But even Jesus spoke the scripture aloud to defeat Satan. Satan hates to hear the Word!

I found that this was true. Whenever I felt overwhelmed by my troubles, I would take out my Bible Promise Book. It had scriptures in categories according to subject. I would read the scriptures and sometimes turn them into prayers. I not only felt calmed and comforted, but gradually the situations did change wonderfully!

So the next time you are drowning in your difficulties, get out your weapon – the Bible – and use it!
