As we prepare to go into battle, we need to know what our weapons are and how to use them. I discovered in studying about the offensive arms in the bible that there are three types of Military action regarding our ability to achieve supremacy over the enemy. They are:
1) Mobility, in the bible this referred to the Chariot and cavalry.
2) Firepower, which was things such as the bow, sling, spear, axe and sword
3) Security, the armor, shield and helmet

Most of us do pretty well insuring our security. We instinctively protect ourselves; the problem may be that we are looking at protecting our flesh more than our spirit. We need to learn how to put on the whole armor of God found in Ephesians Chapter 6. In this chapter, we clearly learn to stand against the powers of evil. The armor of God is important to securing our spirits in the Lord. Notice something…does it say the armor of iron? steele? bullet proof vesture? Does it talk about manmade materials of protection? No! The armor is God. The “armor of God” meaning, God IS our armor.
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Eph. 6:13

The other night I had an experience that prompted me by the Lord to study this. Satan brought the spirit of fear upon me so strong I was unable to move. Frozen in fear! I thought I heard prowlers outside my home and I was too afraid to check it out. What did I do? I called my dad. He lives next door. As soon as he pulled in my driveway, the fear was gone. I knew I was safe and I was able to go to the door boldly to check out the noise I had heard.

We cannot fight Satan and His evil forces by ourselves. We must call upon our heavenly Daddy, God the Father. He brings peace, assurance, comfort and boldness to our spirits. So we MUST have our Daddy God with us as our armor, He IS the Girth of Truth around our loins. He IS the shield of faith to protect us from the fiery darts of Satan. He IS the Helmet of Salvation that assures us of eternal life and victory over death. He IS the breastplate of righteousness that restores our rightful relationship to God and access to all that He has. He IS the gospel that we prepare our feet with to walk in peace daily, knowing that wherever our feet may trod carrying the good news of the gospel, we will possess the land. He IS the Word of God that is alive, and pierces and penetrates to the innermost parts of the souls to cut out all evil and wickedness.

When we learn that our security is in God, then we can boldly move into the offensive mode, attacking the deceiver Satan head on with the promises and word of God. When the spirit of fear comes upon I will know to say: “Satan, God has not given me the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind, so move behind me Satan and get out of my way!” When He accuses me I can say: “Satan, I am a child of God, covered in the blood of Jesus Christ. He came not to condemn but to save so get behind me Satan.” It is important to study God’s word and to know God’s promises so you can recognize the enemy when he comes in the form of an Angel of light described in 2 Cor. 11:14. We need to be on guard to his deception and all of his tactics. Doing this will enable us to walk in the spirit and go forth victorious winning every battle knowing that God is with us and winner has already been announced.

I learned that there were different types of offensive arms in the Bible.
1) Long range arms included the Bow & arrow and sling
2) Medium range arms were weapons like the javelin that could be thrown.
3) Close range arms involved hand to hand combat.
Most of us stay in hand-to-hand combat, which requires the most spiritual energy. I am in hand to hand combat using the sword of God in the manner described above, when we are battling head to head with the evil around us. Our long and medium range weapons are prayer. Prayer dispatches the forces of heaven to the need. More can be accomplished for the sake of God’s army in prayer, than in personal hand to hand combat, and requires less of our spiritual energy.

As we learn to walk victorious, our job is to fight the battles of our brothers and sisters who have not learned to fight so well yet. Eph. 6:18 gives us this instruction: “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” God is not only building soldiers, He is building armies. As we step up the ranks in our training and combat skills, we are to help others become strong warriors against Satan as well. As soldiers in an army, our job is to fight for the purposes of the one who enlisted us. God called us and equipped us with all we need by giving us His word, His Holy Spirit and teaching us to pray. We are to fight for the purposes and will of God to be done here on earth in the lives of all people. We are soldiers in the true army of Good in the battle of Good verses Evil.
