Dear Ask-A-Sister:

I’m a Christian who is a wife and a mother of a 5 and 3 year old.  I do not have a close Christian friend I can talk to.  I’m really depressed right now.  I work 3 days a week at a job I absolutely despise but it pays me very well and allows me extreme flexibility.  I work from 7:45 am to 2:15 pm 3 days a week and make $30,000 a year.  My 5 year old started kindergarten at a Christian school this year that is absolutely wonderful, but it is costing us a bundle.  We are still struggling to make ends meet most months.  I’m really not happy and don’t enjoy my life, husband and children like I should.  I feel so trapped in this job.  Should I just buck it up and quit being selfish and work so my children can have a good Christian education or would it be better for my children to go to a public school and me work less or work at a job I would enjoy but paid me less?

Dear Stuck In A Dead End Job…

I do want to let you know I am praying for you and wanted to offer these words of encouragement.

Take heart that you are not alone I just recently had this same problem. In fact it was with the ministry and my job I didn’t want to do either of them anymore. My spirit had been crushed because I didn’t feel the same anymore about them. I learned from that experience that God is a God who wants to help, comfort, sustain, and renew us.

What does that mean exactly?

Ask God to renew your spirit about your job. Ask Him to show how you can be used in His service at work and at home. This is important because first you need God to show you His power in every situation so you can gain the victory over it.

Then ask Him to reveal to you where there is no doubt in your heart, whether or not you should leave your job and change your lifestyle.

Changing your life in such a dramatic way outside of the Will of God can have disastrous effects. You want to approach this decision prayerfully and with the wisdom of the Holy Spirit ,not self frustrations.

“ I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.” _ John 5:30

Read God’s word every chance you get. Read it not looking for answers but expecting them. Read it with a open heart. God speaks to us through His Word. He will answer, even if it’s not the answer we are looking for.

I share my prayer with you to give you an idea of what to pray for. The reason I do this is, because so often as believers we pray without a clear idea of what we want from God or what we want Him to do in our lives. It is necessary for us to have a clear goal in mind not for the sake of God He already knows our needs but instead to keep us focused on the real issue that He may speak to us on that issue. I have even prayed for God to reveal to me what I should be praying for. This is the prayer I share with you –

“Lord, as I look into Your Word, inscribe Your Will on my heart. Let me be open to Your desires for my life. Let me see things through your eyes Lord. Give me a renewed spirit about my job, my life, my walk with you. Dear Heavenly father I ask that you would guide me in the path I should take as I am confused and bogged down with the weight of this world. I pray that I would not be focused on my situation or my circumstance I pray that my heart would be focused on You. Let my love for you shine through me that all who come into contact with me may see it. I pray that I would be the woman You have called me to be before my family Lord. Lift my spirit I need you to intercede in this situation that I may have the strength to go on. I also pray Lord you would protect myself and my family from mine enemies both known and unknown. Lord I love You, I need You, and I wait for Your answer. You said in Your Holy Word that “We can be confident that He will listen to us whenever we ask Him for anything in line with His will.”-1 John 5:14

Lord hear my prayer, give my life your Grace that I can better be used by You.” – amen

Lastly, find your joy in Christ, our situations and circumstances change all the time. They are good one day and horrible the next. But God is always the same ask Him to give you His joy through is Holy Spirit.

Love You –
Your Sister In Christ
